In a bid to revolutionize the field of robotics and physical AI, LG Innotek has teamed up with Japan’s TDK. This collaboration aims to leverage LG Innotek’s prowess in optical and precision engineering, alongside TDK’s cutting-edge sensor technology, to create advanced vision and tactile sensing modules. The partnership is set to introduce significant innovations to the robotics market, promising enhanced capabilities for machines to interact with their environments.
The first product of this collaboration will be a vision sensing module, which is expected to roll out in 2027. This module will incorporate an inertial sensor, allowing robots to process visual, motion, direction, and auditory data in a unified manner. Such integration is designed to improve robots’ ability to comprehend and react to their surroundings effectively, while minimizing the distortion of images caused by movement.
Additionally, the partnership is working on developing a tactile sensing module, which aims to replicate the sensitivity of human skin. With this technology, robots will be able to detect touch and pressure through various parts of their mechanical bodies, such as hands and arms. Similar to the vision sensing module, the tactile sensing module is also expected to be completed by 2027.
Through this strategic partnership, LG Innotek seeks to solidify its position in the expanding robotics sector. By broadening its range of AI sensing technologies, which already includes cameras, lidar, radar, and tactile sensors, the company aims to capture a larger share of the market.
