WhatsApp is stepping up its digital payment services by launching a new feature that allows users to pay utility bills directly through its messaging platform. This enhancement enables users to manage everyday expenses such as electricity, gas, water, and more, all within the app itself.
This new feature is supported by the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network, which connects users to a massive range of more than 22,700 billers across 30 different categories. These categories encompass various essential services, including FASTag, insurance, credit card and loan repayments, providing a comprehensive billing solution to users.
To use the bill payment option, users can navigate from the WhatsApp home screen to select the relevant bill category and provider. They can then input their account details, review the amount due, and proceed with the payment. The platform accommodates several payment methods, such as UPI, debit cards, and credit cards, to ensure a seamless transaction process.
Alongside facilitating payments, WhatsApp’s new feature also allows users to view their payment history, keep track of upcoming bills, and manage multiple accounts with the same provider. This integration makes it easier for users to handle their finances without needing to switch between different applications.
This strategic development underscores WhatsApp’s evolving role as a multi-functional digital-services platform. By integrating financial services into its existing ecosystem, the company is making everyday financial transactions more accessible, reflecting a broader trend where technology firms strive to merge messaging platforms with digital financial capabilities.
