In the midst of geopolitical uncertainties and fluctuating oil prices, South Korean stock markets demonstrated resilience as semiconductor stocks led a notable upswing. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) saw a significant rise, gaining 113.49 points, or 1.65%, to finish at 7,007.72. This marks the third consecutive session of gains for the benchmark index.
Investor enthusiasm was particularly directed toward artificial intelligence and semiconductor sectors. Samsung Electronics, a major player in the tech industry, experienced a substantial increase of 4.98%, closing at 274,000 won. Similarly, SK hynix, another key semiconductor company, rose by 0.59% to 1.87 million won, while its parent company, SK Square, advanced 4.45%.
Despite the positive momentum in tech stocks, the broader market displayed mixed results. Notably, Hyundai Motor’s shares fell by 1.64%, and LG Energy Solution saw a decline of 3.3%. These variations highlight the diverse responses within different sectors under current market conditions.
In currency markets, the South Korean won strengthened against the US dollar, closing at 1,381 won per dollar, which is an increase of 4.5 won from the previous trading session. This currency movement adds another layer of complexity to the economic landscape as investors navigate ongoing global uncertainties.
